The Canopy Is On Its Way

Posted by

While the fury of freezing rain and wild wind kept most of us indoors over the April 14th and 15th weekend, construction valiantly continued on at Meridian Place_Memorial Square. Those who emerged from the icy depths Monday morning and ventured downtown noticed that the canopy posts have been erected. Even without the canopy in place, this impressive and monumental step really showcases how substantial this Downtown venue will be.

Once complete, the canopy will shelter the stage at Meridian Place. Creating a beautiful space for the community that encourages visitors to easily access the downtown core from the beautiful waterfront at Heritage Park has been a focus for the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA). Meridian Place_Memorial Square will do just that. As Downtown Barrie’s event epicentre, this space will be used for festivals, concerts, events and more.

The anticipated completion date for Meridian Place_Memorial Square is June 2018 with some of the softscape possibly remaining inaccessible until the germination time has passed. As we speak, the steps have been poured, the stage is complete and with the canopy soon to be hung, this beautiful public space will soon be open for enjoyment.
